FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
HOW BIG OF A BUILDING DO I NEED?
We recommend a minimum building size of 20,000 sq feet with at least 16,000 devoted to the track. At this size, however, you are somewhat limited to the track design. For a true road course, the building will have to be at least 120 ft wide at its narrowest point for safety reasons. If two tracks are desired, the building will need to be at least 60,000 sq feet. Remember not to go too big though, because especially when you are paying for space indoors by the sq foot, you want to optimize your space! One key thing to keep in mind is the pole spacing in the prospective buildings. If the poles are spaced 30 ft. apart, it will severely limit your track design capabilities, and waste an extensive amount of space. A track area free of poles is ideal, but 25 ft spacing, or 40+ ft. spacing is preferred. This is because you can’t fit 2 lanes of track between the 30 ft poles, so all the extra area will be wasted space.
HOW LONG SHOULD MY TRACK BE?
We recommend the track to be between 400 – 1000 feet long. Although what we have discovered, is it’s not the length of the track but the speed and drive-ability of the kart that brings the repeat business.
HOW WIDE SHOULD MY TRACK BE?
We recommend between 16 – 20 feet wide, due to the fact that you need to be able to fit at least three karts wide at all times. We recommend more width at the turns, allowing more run out at the turns. 20 ft. is best, 16 ft is minimum.
WHAT IS THE BEST TRACK DESIGN?
There truly is no best go-kart track design. Virtually every track we have designed has been different. EMS will help custom design a track to fit in your available space and budget. NOTE: The design of the track must be compatible with your go kart. Do not design your track and then look for karts. There are certain actions that need to be taken into account when using the Electra Kart. We do not recommend multiple track levels (2+ story buildings for the same track) because it will overwork the batteries, costing you more money. A flat, smooth, concrete surface is the most desired combination. Asphalt is ok, but it will cost more money to maintain the karts, and the energy absorption barrier is not compatible with an asphalt base.
HOW MANY KARTS DO I NEED?
This depends largely on how busy you are and the size of your track. A minimum of ten karts are needed for any market that will support a go kart track. In a large market area, up to 40 karts may be necessary to meet demand. It also depends on the length of your track – since your track may not be long enough to safely operate more karts. If your budget doesn’t allow for the quantity of karts you would ultimately like, you can always extend your pit lane to accommodate the karts and slowly expand your fleet.
HOW FAST DO YOUR KARTS GO?
Our karts can reach speeds up to about 35-40 mph – which feels much faster when you are only 3 inches off the ground. Perhaps the more relevant question should be how slow can you make the karts go? You can always make the karts go faster, however customer safety and most insurance companies regulate the speeds to stay between 18-22 mph or less. The key for the customer, therefore, is not how fast it goes but how fast it feels. The acceleration of the Electra Kart is impressive.
HOW MANY PEOPLE DOES IT TAKE TO RUN A TRACK?
This depends on how busy you are, how many karts you have, whether you have a bridge, and if you are utilizing a remote control system. In general, it will take between 2-5 people on the track, and we always recommend having a trained mechanic on duty at all times to keep your fleet up and running. Electra Karts are strong and reliable, but accidents happen, and over time consumables will wear out. Keeping your karts on track and in top condition is paramount to running a successful karting facility.
HOW MANY BATTERY CHARGERS DO I NEED?
This depends on how many karts you have and how busy your track is, but in almost all circumstances you will need 1 charger for each kart in your fleet.
DO YOU HAVE A MINIMUM PURCHASE?
Electra Motorsports is a manufacturer for rental / concession karts and has a 10 kart minimum order for new businesses. You can always order a few more at a time to expand your fleet in the future, but Electra Motorsports does not sell individual karts to the public.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO GET MY KARTS?
Karts are built to order, and we do not begin manufacturing for most orders until after the deposit is received in most cases. Because the karts are built from the ground up in our factory in El Cajon, Ca., it typically will take between 90 and 120 days to complete a full set of karts.
